With the advent of a major four-lane highway (U.S. Hwy. 82), railroad, and sub-tropical climate, Willacoochee has become a prime target for industry. Since 1995, private industry has invested over $111 million
and has provided jobs for 861 people from Atkinson County and the surrounding area. Three new industries are under construction and, upon completion, will provide an additional 200 jobs.
Willacoochee is the first city in the State of Georgia to own a railroad. Upon learning that the Georgia and Florida Railroad, that runs north and south through the city, was to be abandoned, City leaders
purchased 18 miles of track and right-of-way from Willacoochee to Nashville. The railroad is crucial to the successful operation several industries located in the Willacoochee Industrial Park.
